What makes your camp unique?
We bring in active, titled, upcoming and established, phenomenal chess players such as GM Hikaru Nakamura. Our instructors are not “run – of – the – mill” chess players !!! Each instructor is individually selected for high moral character, unquestionable chess ability and talent which is combined with an enthusiasm of the game and desire to teach. These attributes add up to providing instructors who are excellent role models and appropriate personalities for young campers to emulate.
Our camp is under the auspices and direct supervision of well-known, respected, and premier chess player, coach and author, GM Alexander Stripunsky. Under the watchful eye of this superb leader, every aspect of this camp is formulated, monitored, and executed producing a fine-honed, well organized camp that not only feeds the chess abilities of each camper but also instills a love of the game that becomes a part of every future game they play.
We are exceptionally proud of the fact that our camp creates for each camper an unsurpassed learning experience, taught by impressive, proper, well-mannered and exceptional players in the chess world. How thrilling is it that each camper who has left our camp, beginner and even those with the most intense level of instruction, say they enjoyed the time spent and would like to return for another week.
Are we going to play Bughouse?
Bughouse hurts your ability to play chess. It teaches you to rely on someone giving you
a piece while in real chess, you have to calculate your own best moves. So, we have other fun activities that enhance your ability to play chess not detract from your abilities. While it keeps campers entertained, bughouse is a destroyer not a builder of chess.
What age should I be?
You only need to be old enough to move the pieces.
What levels of chess do you teach?
We have separate classes for every level from beginner to advanced tournament players over 2200.
How do you choose your instructors?
Since we play in major tournaments throughout the U.S. and Europe, for years we have been associated and well acquainted with current and elite chess players and their personalities. We select the best suited players for ability to communicate chess knowledge mixed with high moral character and integrity. This is because we expect our instructors to not only teach well but to be role models for our campers.
What does this camp offer that others do not offer?
Aside from our fine tuned and successful chess instruction, each camper gets the opportunity to be instructed by each instructor. Our instructors are active tournament chess players. Our sports breaks are held with our instructors playing with the campers whether it be basketball, soccer, tennis, or volleyball etc. We offer pre and post care. We provide a counselor with each group who stays with their group all day for added safety and support. Additionally, we have a camp director on site with separate assistants at all times.
